3:10 to Yuma Ride Review & Photos
February 16th, & 17th was the date for last month’s 3rd Saturday of the month overnight Ride, the 3:10 to Yuma Ride. Lynne Whitcomb & Alan Wagener, Christian & Patti Belzunze and Kathy & Chip Allison hosted this first overnight ride of the year.
The Yuma destination provides many challenges for planning a fun scenic route, a lunch stop in Blythe California, a private guided tour of the Historic Yuma Territorial Prison, a great Hotel, a lively cocktail party and delicious dinner.
The hosts made it all look easy, and produced a fantastic overnight event that set the bar for the 2013 BMMC Rides & Events.
(66) excited Members (40) motorcycles gathered at the Departure point on a sunny but brisk Arizona morning. Following Christian’s excellent pre-ride briefing, the members joined up in their 4 pre-assigned riding groups, and departed for the first leg of the ride to Wickenburg for a gas & bio stop.
Following the 1st stop, the members then traveled to Vicksburg Rd and I-10 for the 2nd Stop. Then it was 48 miles down I-10 Crossing into Blythe California for our lunch stop at the Steak & Cakes Restaurant. The staff was ready for us and served up a delightful chicken fried Steak lunch with scoops of mashed potatoes smothered with gravy.
Following lunch, the (4) groups departed for the 90 mile non-stop ride to the Yuma Prison. As advertised by the Hosts, upon our arrival at the Prison they were waiting for us with a ration of Bread & Water.
Of course the water was ice cold bottled water and the bread was an assortment of Delicious homemade Banana Nut, Bread, Zucchini Bread and all kinds of delightful bread cakes. Following our rations, the members enjoyed a club sponsored very informative private guided tour of the prison.
Member Randy Bierbaum made the suggestion that the club support the Prison Pave the Way Program by purchasing a Brick Paver with Black Mountain Motorcycle Club inscribed on it. These pavers line the walk and become a permanent part of the prison. Randy made the arrangements and we are now part of the Yuma Prison.
After the tour, the members took a short ride to our Hotel. After checking in and cleaning up, the members made the short walk to Lutes Casino, for the club sponsored evening festivities.
It did not take long for the party to shift into high gear, as everyone was definitely in the party mode. Soon, the staff opened up the buffet tables loaded with an assortment of delicious Mexican food. As usual, at BMMC eating events, the members tried their best to consume the food as fast as it came out of the kitchen, but Lutes staff was up to the task, and everyone came away stuffed.
Soon, some of the partiers started back to the hotel while others moved on to a local bar with music, and the party continued.
The next morning, the members took advantage of the complimentary full breakfast at the hotel, and then departed in small groups for the open return ride home.
All of the attendees would like to thank Lynne & Alan, Christian & Patti and Kathy & Chip for planning and hosting this really fun overnight 3rd Saturday Ride. Great Job Gals & Guys, it was awesome!
We would also like to thank our hard working Ride Captain Team, for leading and sweeping our 4 pre-assigned riding groups. Great job guys.
